One of the fastest rising stars on the Vancouver music scene, Malcolm Aiken is a trumpet player, bandleader and music producer whose music blends influences of jazz, R&B, and Afro-Cuban music. In addition to leading several ensembles under his own name, Malcolm is the musical director for TANGA, a 12-piece Latin-Jazz big band that recently released their debut album 'Simmer and Serve.' Currently, he is recording music for his upcoming solo album, "Infinity," set to release in the spring of 2010.

Malcolm’s musical endeavors began at age 8 with the violin, but he soon switched to the trumpet upon hearing his first Louis Armstrong record. He started playing professionally while still in high school, studied in New York, San Francisco and at the Banff Center, and completed his formal music training with a Master's degree from the University of British Columbia. Having shared the stage with the likes of Chucho Valdez, Hugh Fraser and Bubi Chen, Malcolm has also performed for world leaders such as the Dalai Lama, Reverend Desmond Tutu and Sharin Abadi. Based on the west coast, Malcolm has performed in concerts throughout Canada, the US, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, Germany, Holland and the UK.

As an educator, Malcolm shares his experience and enthusiasm for music with brass players of all ages through workshops and master classes. In addition to clinics at schools and music events around western Canada, he is the brass coach for the award-winning West Vancouver Youth Band, and is on faculty at the annual Whistler and Sun Peaks music festivals.
